What To Expect at a Jazzercise Class
Jazzercise, combines the art of jazz dance and
the beat of the best new popular music to make Jazzercise fun! New
choreography
is introduced
gradually to keep class fresh and exciting, yet not overwhelming.
Jazzercise is geared toward all ages and
fitness levels. Low impact movements and modifications are always
demonstrated, and everyone
is encouraged to "listen" to his or her body and to work
at their own pace. If you look around the room, you will see people
working at all different intensities.
All instructors are trained and
certified by Jazzercise, Inc. Their ongoing training includes instruction
in exercise physiology,
anatomy, nutrition, dance technique, injury prevention, exercise
leadership, and CPR certification.
Each 60-minute Jazzercise class consists of:
- A warm-up segment for the individual muscle groups.
- A 30-40 minute aerobic segment to increase cardiovascular fitness
and burn extra calories.
- A 20 minute muscle-toning segment concentrating on strengthening,
and then stretching the hips, thighs, rear, abdomen, and
upper torso.
- A final cool-down to allow the body to gradually return
to normal.
What To Wear
Anything that is comfortable and allows for
freedom of movement and evaporation of sweat. Most students wear
shorts and T-shirts,
or leotards. Good aerobic shoes are also recommended, they will
absorb shock, support your feet, and help prevent injury.
What To Bring
- An exercise mat. If you don't have one, don't worry! There are extras
here you can use.
- A water bottle, if desired. Just be sure it's non-breakable.
